The CAT 320D2L adopts the exclusive Caterpillar C7.1 inline six-cylinder industrial diesel engine, a comprehensive upgrade iteration based on the classic C6.6 power unit carried by the former 320D series. It applies electronic common rail precise fuel injection technology, paired with intelligent automatic speed adjustment and automatic idle energy-saving programs. When the machine stays stationary for more than 5 seconds, the engine will automatically drop to low idle speed to cut unnecessary fuel waste. Under the same earthmoving workload, its comprehensive fuel consumption is 10% to 15% lower than the older generation 320D excavator, greatly reducing daily operating fuel expenditure for contractors and rental companies.
This power unit features ultra-high fuel tolerance, which is a core advantage for construction sites in developing regions and remote areas. It can stably operate on low-purity, non-standard diesel that contains tiny impurities, without frequent filter blockage or power attenuation. The fuel supply system is equipped with dual-stage long-life fuel filters plus a large-volume water-oil separator, which can fully separate moisture, sediment and particulate impurities mixed in fuel. This design effectively avoids injector clogging, fuel pump wear and other common oil circuit failures, slashing unplanned shutdown losses caused by fuel system breakdowns.
In terms of heat dissipation, the engine matches an oversized composite cooling radiator with independent hydraulic oil cooling circuit. Even under continuous full-load operation in high-temperature summer environments or enclosed quarry sites, the engine can maintain a constant optimal working temperature, preventing power derating or component aging due to overheating. All moving core parts inside the engine adopt forged alloy materials and undergo strict factory wear resistance testing, with ultra-long overhaul cycles and stable long-term performance. It meets Tier 3 and China National Stage 3 emission standards, without complicated post-processing devices, bringing lower maintenance thresholds and maintenance costs compared with high-emission standard models.
